Contextual Fit
The Smith family has commissioned the design of an extension for their residence overlooking the Long Island Sound. The existing home, originally designed in 1965 by renowned architect Richard Meier, no longer accommodates their evolving needs. While the clients are looking to update their living spaces to better reflect their current lifestyle, they have made it clear that the new addition should honor the essence and architectural integrity of the original structure, while also expressing a contemporary identity of its own.
This proposal focuses on investigating how new volumetric forms, spatial relationships, and organizational strategies can be integrated with the existing building. The intention is to create a design that responds thoughtfully to the original composition, allowing both structures to coexist harmoniously, while establishing a distinct and modern architectural presence.

Narrative & Idea
The Smith family’s passion for painting inspires the design of the home. The paint palette becomes the main idea, shaping both form and space.
Like a palette, the house brings together different elements that connect through movement, color, and experience. Spaces flow around this central form, creating a balance between interaction and privacy.
The home becomes a place where creativity is not only expressed, but lived.
